We Bonded

The beginning of last week Señora became very ill.  We thought she was having an attack of sinusitis or possibly the flu.  A few days into it, she lost her sense of taste.  Despite having had both doses of the Moderna vaccine, she tested positive for COVID.  After a miserable weekend she had the infusion treatment Monday, and she is improving.  She remains very fatigued  and is still missing the flavor of food.

Out of an abundance of caution, Señora suggested I be tested even though I had had both doses of Pfizer vaccine plus the booster. I was in concordance with her so I begin searching the Internet for a pharmacy or urgent care that could give me the rapid test today. I found one, and made an appointment.

I don’t know if any of you have ever had a nasal swab for the flu in the past.  They came into the exam room with a probe that had a long flexible end on it that from all appearances looked like it belonged on a Roto-Rooter truck.  They then proceeded to jam it up one nostril until it reached your most distal sinus cavity.  At least that is what it felt like.

The new version of the test uses a long Q-Tip type probe.  They twirl it around inside both nostrils about as far as you can put a finger.  Not pleasant, but a can of corn, a piece of cake compared to the old exam.

When the tech was done, I said, “There is an old joke… you can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose…”

The tech then proceeded to finish it for me, “But you cannot pick your friend’s nose, but you can pick a stranger’s nose in a medical setting.”

We bonded at that moment.

Oh, the test was negative.

And so it goes.

  1. So glad yours was negative. Hopefully Robin has continued to improve. I’ve been sick the last few days, but thankfully, covid isn’t even suspected.

  2. Thankful you didn’t get it, as well. Thank you for looking after my bestie sister from another mother.??
