Isaac Asimov on Trump

I cannot think of time in recent history, the history I personally remember, that we have needed good leadership more for this country and the world in general than now. Instead we are stuck with Effingham Trump whose leadership quality approaches nil.

I’m on I-64 headed east into St. Louis city proper. My whole trip was well within the metropolitan St. Louis area. I am doing about 70 mph. The speed limit through here is 60 mph. A brand new Jaguar convertible goes screaming by me in the far left passing lane. He (she?) is doing 80 or 85 mph at least. Obviously, someone cutting up in their new ride. However, the effect was more or less negated as this person had their left turn signal on the whole time I could see them.
Which reminds me of what I told me daughter-in-law one time. She pointed out to me that my turn signal was still on. I replied, “I’m over 65, and by law I am legally entitled to leave it one for as long as I feel the need.”
I wonder if our Jaguar speedster was legally entitled.

I watched a bit of an old (is there any other kind) Marx Brothers movie. Every time Groucho did some of his trademarked bits, I felt like it was Groucho Marx channeling Alan Alda channeling Groucho Marx!

Raise you hand if after two years of hype, you thought the total eclipse of the sun anticlimactic…
Glitter Is Not Dirt
Robin and I were at Pho Grand waiting to be seated. It was a nice night and we were sitting on the bench just outside the entrance anticipating our number coming up. As we sat there a family was leaving. It consisted of both parents, and two children. I only discovered the gender of one child from her voice as I would have had to turn around to see them. The father and daughter were discussing whether or not a bath before bedtime was needed. The father was of the opinion that one was not. The daughter’s opinion differed. I could not hear her reasoning, but was able to intuit her logic a minute later upon the father’s reply.
“Glitter is not dirt,” he said.
Apparently they had been someplace where glittered had been applied before going or perhaps there.
I do think that will be my new motto, “Glitter is not dirt.”

I think I figured out why so many folks tend to dislike classical music. Think back to the last time you were on hold. What was the music? In my experience it is usually classical, followed by what we used to call Muzak, or on rare occasions easy listening. The combination of being on hold for far too long listening to unfamiliar music may generate this dislike .
Just for the record classical music is one of my favorite genres, but I still hate being on hold!

R.I.P. Jimmy LaFave
Of course, I was way on the outside looking in, but in Jimmy’s final days he gave to us a wonderful lesson on how to die well. Something we all hope to do.
Below is a link to the article in the Austin Chronicles about his passing. Very sad day indeed. I cherish each and every performance of this great musician I was able to see.
