Being a Bit of a Fashionista

Fashions come and fashions go.  I am ready for jogger pants for men to go.  I think it is one of the worst fashion trends to come along in a while, especially when paired with the no socks look.  Of course, many of the current “fashion” trends leave me scratching my head. So many folks look like they could not be bothered to change out of their at home lounging clothes before going out into public, inflicting their fashion sense on the rest of us.  I would not go back to Victorian times when folks were overly rigid about how one dressed when going out in public, but there is a balance in there somewhere.

I was returning home from the golf course in Illinois, and I made a stop at the Wal-Mart in South County, the one right next to the Mississippi River.  It is a trippy place in the best of times.  Catch it after the various aid checks have hit people’s mailboxes or bank accounts, and it is down right scary.

I was walking in behind a couple who were probably in their 20s.  I did not see their faces, so my guess is based on their derrieres and how they were dressed.  The gentleman of the duet had on a pair of joggers, no socks and a pair of dress shoes.  The coup de grâce, however, was the monitoring ankle bracelet he was wearing.  Had it been me, I would have been doing everything I could to hide the bracelet.  Either he was proud of it, or just did not care.

This is not the first time I have encountered this fashion statement.  A few years ago I was playing golf (sensing a theme here, are you?) when I realized I had dropped my Yoda head cover. I backtracked a bit to the group playing behind me to see if they had seen it or picked it up.  The person closest to me was wearing shorts, and you guessed it, an ankle bracelet.  This made me hesitate a bit about asking for my head cover, but I overcame my trepidation and did so.  Mr. Ankle Bracelet nodded his head and dug my poor Yoda out of the depths of his golf bag.  I reckon he must have been wearing the bracelet for a crime other than larceny.

  1. Yep…they don’t care. I want to know how they have permission to be wherever they are since lots of those devices are on people restricted to home or work.
