Vanity Plate for the Day – 6I JOE

Vanity Plate of the Day… not actually daily, but whenever I encounter one in the wild that I think worth sharing and there are not too many in sequence.  When I was commuting from my home to downtown St. Louis and back, I was spending anywhere from an hour and half to two hours daily in rush hour traffic. I used the exercise of deciphering vanity plates to help pass the time… plus sometimes they are very clever and worth sharing.

6I JOE

This was on the back of an army green Jeep Wrangler.  Since they used “6” instead of “G”, there must be another vehicle with a similar Missouri plate.  “GI JANE” was also taken, but not “6I JANE”.  Nothing wrong with being proud of your service.

But then again, they could have just been big fans of the action figure…

Vanity Plate for the Day – GRAZI

GRAZI

This was on the back of an almost new Audi A5, not an inexpensive ride.  Of course, grazie is Italian for thank you… or bless your pea-pickin’ little heart.  I never remember exactly. They went with GRAZI I am betting because GRAZIE was probably taken.

Going with thank you, one wonders what the owner was thankful for, perhaps the luxury vehicle, perhaps a man bought this car for his wife and this was her way of expressing gratitude, perhaps…

KTYWMPS

A reference to catawampus which is commonly spelled katywampus.

This was on the back of a  Jeep Rubicon that was so highly detailed I had a hard time imagining it being in a situation to get askew or awry, let alone katywampus.

LTR G8R

If you are of a certain age – a child of the 50s – you will recognize this as “Later Gator” with the usual response being “After while Crocodile.”  It was on the back of a bright blue Corvette convertible, one of the new models with the very European styling, driven by an older gentleman with very white hair.

WLKABT

This was on the back of  yet another Subaru Outback, this one an army green Outback in our neighborhood.  The Outback name is inspiring all sorts of Australian themed vanity plates. I read this as the Australian aborigine custom of taking a walk-about, on the off chance you have not figured it out.

DWN-NDR

This was on the back of a Subaru Outback, hence the reference to Down Under.  I suppose they could have been Australian, but frequently Kiwis, Aussies and Brits will display a small flag of their country on their back windshield.

Vanity Plate for the Day – 8SCNDS

8SCNDS

This was on the back of a F-150 pickup truck.  Its message was reinforced by a sticker on the back windshield that read “Cowboy Up”.  8 seconds is the amount of time a rodeo cowboy must stay on a bull or bucking bronco to qualify for a score.  Having known a couple bull riders, they are some crazy mo-fos.

I have not put out a Vanity Plate posting for a while, mainly because I am retired and not spending an hour and half or two hours a day commuting to and from downtown St. Louis.  When I did I used the exercise of deciphering vanity plates as a way to help pass the time in rush hour traffic.
