Rev. Joe’s Random Thought #2,467

yeah I know you did not ask!

You should so be blessed – well cursed at times actually – with a mind such as mine, making all these weird connections between my rumored neurons. Just be thankful that I do not share all of my random thoughts.

I was on a beer run.  As I was entering the package store late on this sunny afternoon, three sweet young things were exiting. They were dressed in their best summertime, revealing outfits.  Even if you only had a few milligrams of testosterone floating around in your system, it would have been hard to not have checked them out, which I was.  As I got near to the gaggle of girls I overheard one of them say to another, “I will turn 25 before you turn 23.”

All of sudden I felt like a dirty old man… oh well.

I was shopping for staples at Aldi, browsing through the produce section I encountered cucumbers in their original shipping cartons, labeled both in English and Spanish.  What caught my attention was the carton labeled “conventional cucumber”.  Made wonder what an unconventional cucumber was, and could I get one to try.

My moment of terror:

There I was lying wide awake in our king size bed, staring at the ceiling, listening to Señora and the The Wee Dog breathing, but in not rhythm.  Then it suddenly dawned on me, I was THAT guy!

Ouch.

The only time I really look at myself is when I am shaving in the morning as it is almost impossible to do a good job shaving without peering in a mirror.  The rest of time I prefer to not see the old man glaring at me in the looking glass.

This morning, for some reason, I focused on the nearly bilaterally symmetrical wrinkles I have developed at the corners of  my mouth that descend vertically, almost darting under my chin. They are even more prominent as my resting face mouth is a bit of a frown.

To me they appear to be the lines similiar to the mouth of a ventriloquist’s dummy or that of a puppet that allow the opening and closing of that orifice.

All of which started me wondering, who is pulling my strings?

Stephen Miller, Jared Kushner, Mark Zuckerberg,  Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos while they do not look exactly alike, they do look very similar.

Coincidence?

I am beginning to believe they are from the same alien race. Kokopelli only knows how they reproduce on their planet or in their dimension, but they all appear to be brood mates. They all appear to be from a species that feeds on the misery of others, from a species that their need to consume this form of substance knows no bounds.  There cannot be too much misery in the world for them and their insatiable appetites .

Wait, you are telling me they cannot be aliens as they have birth certificates.  Well, Obama‘s supposed birth in Hawaii   is proof that birth certificates can be forged.

Perhaps AI can help us come up with a facial template to identify these unwanted visitors.  Wait.  Are you trying to tell me AI is also an import from this same extraterrestrial source? Time to duck and cover.

And so it should not be.

Sanford and Son was originally aired from 1972 to 1977. I do not recall watching the show during that period, but at one point in my life I watched the reruns a lot. Redd Foxx was born in 1922, which would have made him 50 to 55 years old during the original run of the show. I remember thinking how old he appeared in those 30 minute comedic episodes.

I was flipping through the channels the other day, and I came across an episode of the show.  I watched a few minutes of it, thinking how young Redd Foxx looked.

Ouch.

One random thought that I occasionally have while in the throne room “meditating” is why did not the supposed Intelligent Designer makes us photosynthetic creatures. In that case I would be excreting O2  and H2O after producing a nutritious sugar with CO2 and H2O.

Talk about your little green men!

Just saying.

At one point in my life I could have written out the whole chain of chemical reactions involved in photosynthesis or for that matter the Krebs Cycle. Not much call for that when you are twiddling bits and bytes.

I was lying in bed the other night, the hour very late, staring at the ceiling, ruminating on mortality.

I am not particularly afraid of dying.  As Mark Twain said (and so many others having expressed similar sentiments) :

“I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it.“

The real issue for me is getting from point A to point B. Commonly the transition to not being can be troubling, difficult, painful, unlooked-for. Hence in my late night ruminations, I said to myself that I was more afraid of not dying than dying. While I am still in reasonable health, the last year or two I have become aware of some significant bumps in my path to obscurity that could be popping up soon. It does not help that within our circle of acquaintances there have been a few lingering deaths that were traumatic on the persons and to the family.  Makes you wonder why the supposed Intelligent Designer did not put an on/off switch somewhere on our bodies.

And so it goes.

Overheard…

I was standing in line at the supermarket, well, Schnucks, if you must know.  In front of me were two young women, thirty-somethings, who, from the contents of their shopping cart, looked like they were buying for a party.

First one says to the second, “I heard your ex-husband had a blind date last night.  Good for him.”

“Well, maybe,” said the second one, “I am still good friends with the wife of one of his buddies.  She told me he told his buddy that his date had been a well worn pincushion full of little red flags.”

“Does not sound like there is going to be a second date,” said the first gal.

“I would guess not,” said the second.

They went on to other topics less worthy of my eavesdropping.
