yeah I know you did not ask!
The flag is dipped to show respect. At sea it is dipped by lowering to half-mast and then raising. I have come to see flags at half-mast after gun massacres as a dip to the NRA. I am tried of seeing flags at half-mast. NRA is not owed respect.
I recently contacted both of the Senators from Missouri and my Congresswoman, Ann Wagner.
The reason for my contact was to support President Obama in his push to institute some sanity in gun regulation and control by executive action. The 2nd Amendment is a disaster and should be repealed. The NRA and gun lobby are doing a huge disservice to our country. IMHO, their actions and positions are immoral. For the various reasons that I think this way please read:
Hey Ted Nugent…Guns are not toys
I briefly considered making a bumper sticker that read, “Repeal the 2nd Amendment”.
I do not have any doubt that it would be the end of my vehicle, or at least the end of my vehicle looking nice. The gun “rights” nuts would not respect my right to free speech.
And yes I am an agnostic, but the Jesus that I read about in the New Testament was a socialist and anti-establishmentarian. The likelihood of Jesus being a Republican matches the likelihood of Ayn Rand voting Democrat. I personally believe that Jesus would throw the NRA out of Congress along with the money changers aka lobbyist.
So it goes.
I will admit to liking one or two Ted Nugent songs, but on the whole I am not a fan. My musical tastes tend toward Americana, singer/songwriter, jazz and classical music. However, Ted Nugent as a political activist I categorically do not like. It is an actually aversion. I am a big supporter of free speech, but part of me cannot help but thinking in a sane society this individual would be receiving heavy psychiatric counseling.
My aversion to Mr. Nugent stems from his attitude towards guns and his support of seeming absolutely no gun control.
To state the obvious, guns are designed to kill, period. They have no other function. They are meant to either kill humans or animals. Of course, there are effects that stem from this function.
They have been and are used for agents of gathering meat. This use has limited functionality now, as most folks who hunt for food in the United States will readily tell you that it is not cost efficient.
