yeah I know you did not ask!
It seems like a natural disaster or personal tragedy brings out the best in many folks. A sense of community and shared responsibility, dare I say socialism exists. People are willing to go to extremes to help and give what they have for complete strangers. How wonderful it would be if this attitude caring and love persisted when our situation was less urgent.
It is this sort of attitude that made me glad to leave Oklahoma, and precludes me from ever returning.
“Oklahoma residents who produce their own energy through solar panels or small wind turbines on their property will now be charged an additional fee, the result of a new bill passed by the state legislature and expected to be signed into law by Gov. Mary Fallin (R).”1
We should be doing everything we can to promote green energy. I suppose someone convinced the folks who pass for legislators in Oklahoma that it was “bad for business” to have folks doing this. That perhaps it was cutting into the electric suppliers’ business.
In making the above statement I wondered how Oklahoma generated most of its electricity. Turns out most of it comes from six coal-fired power plants (27% of states capacity3 ). Continue reading “Is Oklahoma Green? Nope!”
I will admit to liking one or two Ted Nugent songs, but on the whole I am not a fan. My musical tastes tend toward Americana, singer/songwriter, jazz and classical music. However, Ted Nugent as a political activist I categorically do not like. It is an actually aversion. I am a big supporter of free speech, but part of me cannot help but thinking in a sane society this individual would be receiving heavy psychiatric counseling.
My aversion to Mr. Nugent stems from his attitude towards guns and his support of seeming absolutely no gun control.
To state the obvious, guns are designed to kill, period. They have no other function. They are meant to either kill humans or animals. Of course, there are effects that stem from this function.
They have been and are used for agents of gathering meat. This use has limited functionality now, as most folks who hunt for food in the United States will readily tell you that it is not cost efficient. The local Jewish community newspaper in St. Louis ran the following editorial. It was triggered by Oklahoma passing a constitutional amendment banning judges from considering Sharia (and international laws) in their judicial opinions. The editoralist does not see a lot of legal danger from this amendment, but finds the attitude behind the passing of the amendment very dangerous.
