We’re now in the America’s second Gilded Age.
Last week it was reported that in 2017 the average CEO of the 350 largest firms in the U.S. received $18.9 million in compensation. That’s a 17.6 percent increase over 2016.
At the same time, the typical worker’s compensation remained flat, rising merely 0.3 percent.
The first Gilded Age fueled a progressive era that tamed and regulated its excesses, beginning in 1901.
I wrote my Missouri Senators requesting them to vote NO on the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. IMHO, Kavanaugh is awful man who would have the power to set this country back 50 years. He absolutely, should not be a Supreme Court Justice.
This is the response from Roy Blunt. It just added to the many reasons I have not voted for this man, and will never vote for this man…for any office.

Judge Kavanaugh is a highly-qualified nominee with an outstanding legal background. In his decade on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, Judge Kavanaugh has become known for his intellect, effective writing style, and ability to build consensus.
The Supreme Court is one of the most important legacies a president can leave. I look forward to learning more about Judge Kavanaugh’s judicial record and talking with him about his judicial philosophy as the confirmation process moves forward.

What strange times we live in. Here I am rooting for the porn star Stormy Daniels @StormyDaniels over the so called President of the United States Gospodin Trump @realDonaldTrump I so hopes she takes him down. I so hope she demonstrates beyond any doubt what the whole world already knows. That he is awful human being who should be in prison. #WorstPresidentEver

The flag is dipped to show respect. At sea it is dipped by lowering to half-mast and then raising. I have come to see flags at half-mast after gun massacres as a dip to the NRA. I am tried of seeing flags at half-mast. NRA is not owed respect.
I do not think Obama was a great President, but I do think he was a good President. I do believe that if we had not had a Republican congress hell bent on creating a shit-hole of a banana republic out of this country for their rich sponsors, he might have been a great President. He was a bit of a disappointment to me as a progressive as he listened to the military much too much, and I found him to be somewhat conservative. 20 or 25 years ago, his policies would have been Republican policies. Everyone has seen this Churchill quote: “Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others.”
But here lately I’ve been wondering if there is not something better. Without an educated, informed populace I don’t know how it is supposed to work or at least work well. It strikes me that people now revel in their ignorance…said the old curmudgeon.
I pray this is the death throes of an old order that is not functional in today’s world.

The Department of Labor released a proposed rule rescinding portions of its tip regulations, including current restrictions on “tip pooling”—which would mean that, for example, restaurants would be able to pool the tips servers receive and share them with untipped employees such as cooks and dishwashers. But, crucially, the rule doesn’t actually require that employers distribute pooled tips to workers. Under the administration’s proposed rule, as long as the tipped workers earn minimum wage, the employer can legally pocket those tips.
