Quote of the Day – Pete Hegseth

Quote of the Day… not actually daily, but whenever I encounter one I think worth sharing and there are not too many in sequence.  I like quotes as they frequently distill a piece of wisdom into a brief passage, or make other points very succinctly – such as the witticisms of Oscar Wilde.

I only speak American.” ~~ Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Defense in the Trump malAdministration

Years ago when I lived in Mississippi, I rented an apartment in what was then a brand new complex.  Overtime it filled up with families with children as the complex was very close to the elementary school and middle school for Brandon, MS.  Leaving my apartment, one weekend afternoon there were a handful of kids playing on the landing outside my apartment.  I said something to them in Spanish.  The kids were at just the right pre-teen age to be sassy.  One of them told me, “You need to speak American.”

One would think the Secretary of Defense of the United States of America  would have more sense than a sassy 10 year old.  One would think…

The occasion of his remarks was at a meeting of Latin American leaders.  Marco Rubio, another light-weight, had spoke before him and delivered some of his remarks in Spanish.  When it came Hegseth’s turn to speak, he delivered this gem.

I truly believed that El Pendejo deliberately chose the worst possible people for each of his Cabinet positions. May Baal save us all.

You don’t tell me anything, you washed-up, loser lawyer.” ~~ Pam Bondi, Attorney General of the United States in a recent Congressional hearing.

I don’t really know, but I would imagine that Robert’s Rule of Order, used by many deliberative bodies, would frown upon such ad hominem  attacks.  Not to mention the sheer unprofessionalism it displays.  But then again, I am not seeing any other members of this malAdministration showing any semblance of professionalism.

I gleaned this from Paul Krugman’s newsletter on SubStack.  He went on:

“Yet what truly amazed me was her demand that Democrats stop talking about Jeffrey Epstein because the Dow was above 50,000. This plumbed new depths of moral bankruptcy, effectively saying: ‘How dare you complain about child rape when the stock market is up?’”

Oh the times we live in, when this passes for a government in a free democracy.

I’ve been more than a little dark lately.  I was going through my pending posts trying to find one lighter.  Apparently I have been dark for a while. This quote, however, is very applicable to our current times of over stimulation by media in 42 different directions.

“I get more liberal with the more knowledge I acquire.”  ~~ Señor Anónimo

This from an acquaintance – well a relative- who wishes to remain, well, anonymous.  After a bit of a rant from them about the current beyond dysfunctional administration, I remarked that he was sounding like a liberal. The above quote was their reply.

Given that they have been a life long Republican and a self-described Libertarian, I found the quote interesting and amusing.
