Life Lesson Learned…Maybe

I am going to start this article with a couple caveats.  First caveat being that you cannot tell a person’s physical ailments/limitations from a distance.  Sometimes you cannot tell standing next to them.  Second caveat is that a regular Pepsi can and a Bud Light can, again from a distance, are very similar, especially in color.

I was driving home from someplace I do not remember.  I noticed a young man playing catch in his front yard.  I then realized he was playing catch with a gentleman the right age to be the young man’s father.   My initial reaction was, “how nice.”

This is somewhat of a not so fond remembrance of my childhood…said the 67 year old man.  My father did very little with me.  I do not Continue reading “Life Lesson Learned…Maybe”

Huuuhhhh?

I recently bought a cheap kayak for exercise purposes.  It gives me a change from bicycling on the Katy Trail or the little gym in our basement.  I’ve been taking it out to Creve Coeur Lake Park a couple times a week.

Creve Coeur Lake Park is 2200 acre park with a 320 acre lake about 10 or 15 minutes from the house.  While Creve Coeur Lake is pretty and scenic it is not very clean. It is not very deep, 10 feet at the most.  Also during times of flood on the Missouri River, this area all goes under water.   And let’s face it, people are not always that clean, and a lot trash from the park ends up in the lake.

On Saturdays if the weather is even half way decent the park is very Continue reading “Huuuhhhh?”

You do not have to do that, no one is watching

I frequently golf in Columbia, IL across the Mississippi River from my home in Chesterfield, MO. The courses are a little cheaper over there, and a little easier to get on.  Also, over there is a driving range that is the bargain of the century.  They charge $5 and you can hit all the balls you want.  Just to give you a little perspective, most places charge between $10 to $12 for a bucket of 90 balls.  If you are at a golf course and want to warm up before your round, they will charge you $4 to $6 for a bucket of 30 or so balls.

As you can imagine this is not the nicest place in the world, but it is sufficient for banging golf balls.  It is just on the other side of the Mississippi River levee and as such is very flat and sometimes very muddy.  It  is what we call Continue reading “You do not have to do that, no one is watching”

One Small Rebellion Against Trump

This is just one example of many possible examples of how petty and low we have sank as a nation under the disaster masquerading as a human being, Gospodin Trump.

I needed some new light bulbs, but I required ones with a candelabra base for a ceiling fan light.  This POS, this so called POTUS, for some unknown reason has rolled back the regulations mandating the use of energy saving light bulbs.  When asked why, he had no explanation, but said a report was forthcoming.  I am assuming some crony of his will benefit from the sale of old style light bulbs.

The only other reason that makes sense is that he is doing all he can to destroy the planet.  I am clueless as to why anyone in this day and age will deny the reality of climate change.  I believe the scientist on this one, but even if they are wrong, we still need to be hedging our bets just in case they are right.

I made damn sure I found the energy saving style of light bulb, and as I picked them up I thought, “Fuck you, Donald Trump!”

¿Tienes tú vergüenza de tu presidente?

I was doing my Spanish lesson via Skype with the young man in Guatemala, Manolo Castillo.  He is not big on talking politics which is fine by me.  I need a break from being so angry about our current political situation.   However, tonight he was telling me about a story he had read about DJT and he asked me “¿Tienes tú vergüenza de tu presidente?”  Are you not ashamed/embarrassed of your president.  All I could say was, “Claro que sí, mucho.”  Of course, a lot.’

The whole damn world knows he is a nut case except for the rednecks in the red states of this fine country.

Rolling Stone Article: U.S. Fossil Fuel Subsidies Exceed Pentagon Spending

From the article:

“The United States has spent more subsidizing fossil fuels in recent years than it has on defense spending, according to a new report from the International Monetary Fund.

The IMF found that direct and indirect subsidies for coal, oil and gas in the U.S. reached $649 billion in 2015. Pentagon spending that same year was $599 billion.”

We do so many things wrong headed.  And why are the Republicans NOT willing to trust market forces on this one?

Rev. Joe’s Random Thought # 7,676

yeah I know you did not ask!

I was telling my wife something the other day that was true, but she was having a hard believing it to be so.  After all a bit she said to me, “I suppose it could be true, after all if Trump is our president any absurdity is possible.”

Plumbing 101

I had a minor plumbing repair to do in our bathroom under the sink and within the vanity.  For part of the operation I needed a second pair of hands so I enlisted my wife, the esteemed Señora Robin.   She came into the bathroom and sees tools scattered around, the contents of the vanity stacked untidily in a corner, and me with my head stuck under the sink.

With barely a pause as she walks in she says, “You cannot possibly know what you are doing.”

This brings me out of the depths of my plumbing cave with a quizzical look on my ruggedly handsome face.

She continues, “I see no butt crack.  It is a job requirement.”

I worked for some plumbers one summer in college. They told me there were only three things that I really must know: water does not run up hill; you get paid on Friday; and never chew your nails after a job.  Apparently there are four.
