Eulogy for Karol Weinhaus

How do we let a mother go?
How do we say …I’m ready now.
How can we ever have a clue of what that really means?

And, all of a sudden
That moment is upon us, and there is no turning back.

We know what grief is….the things undone….the empty spaces……
Waves and waves of conflicting emotions.
But there is peace too.

Peace and acceptance and overwhelming love that we become aware of.
And laughter and sweet memories of times of joy and closeness.
Memories flood our hearts of things we recall .

And it is all about you, mom.

And there is gratitude, so much of that,
that we shared our lives,
that we took the walk together,
that we were a family.

How will the value of our days be measured?
What will matter is not what you bought, but what you built
Not what you got , but what you gave
What will matter is not your success but your significance.
What will matter is not what you learned but what you taught.
What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage, and sacrifice that enriched, empowered and encouraged others.
What will matter is not your competence but your character.
What will matter is not how many people you knew, but how many will feel a lasting loss when you are gone.
What will matter is not your memories, but the memories that live on in those who loved you.

This may be a final tribute.
A day to celebrate your life and say goodbyes.
But it is not final.
Everyday I will celebrate in some way, just by the virtue of the life you gave to me and what we shared.
Thank you, Mom, God bless you, be well, you will be missed.

This is the eulogy that Robin wrote for her mother Karol Weinhaus.  Yes the Karol of  Smack Down at Our Lady of Salvation Bingo Emporium

The middle part is from a poem by Michael Josephson, What Will Matter.

I may be a bit biased, but I thought it a beautiful eulogy.
